learning
to
use
drones

Can
prepare
these
kids
for
a
better
future

Camp

There
is
a
lack
of
access
|
and
a
lack
of
activities
in
Baltimore.
|
We
hear
stories
every
day
of
lack
of
funding
for
after-school
programs,
|
so
people
need
a
fun,
engaging
STEM
activity.
|
Global
Air
Media
is
an
FAA
licensed
drone,
cinematography
and
mapping
company
based
in
Baltimore,
MD.
|
So,
the
mission
of
the
drone
camp
is
really
to
introduce
youths
to
a
fun
and
engaging
STEM
activity.
|
The
way
the
drone
school
works
is
|
we
basically
go
to
the
schools
and
teach
the
kids
how
to
fly,
|
build
and
operate
drones
safely.
|
We
noticed
that
there
was
a
lack
of
kids
just
basically
going
outside
|
and
having
fun,
engaging
things
to
do.
|
The
drone
workshops
fit
in
perfectly
with
STEM.
|
One
of
the
activities
they
participate
in
is
soldering.
|
They'll
be
able
to
fix
their
drone
when
they
crash
as
opposed
to
sending
it
out
|
to
some
manufacturer
to
fix,
so
|
It's
giving
them
skills
that
they
can
use
beyond
just
drones
|
and
for
electronics
and
engineering
in
general.
|
The
global
market
for
drone
technology,
currently
estimated
at
about
$2
billion,
will
ballon
to
as
much
as
$127
billion
by
2020.
|
Open
Works
made
the
commitment
to
partner
with
Global
Air
Media
|
when
they
saw
how
brilliant
that
the
brothers
are.
|
So
to
me
I
see
it
as
the
organization
is
getting
better
|
and
stronger
from
this
opportunity
as
well
as
Global
Air
Media.
|
Open
works
is
an
affordable
comunity
workspace
that
provides
access
to
tools,
tech
&
resources
for
shared
use.
|
The
thing
that
I
hope
to
see
is
|
to
see
a
young
person
that
started
in
our
class
|
actually
go
from
our
class
to
flying
professionally,
racing
or
commercially.
|
My
main
goal
is
just
to
see
the
children
do
something
innovative
|
and
start
something
new
with
drones.
|
In
addition
to
Drone
Camp,
Global
Air
Media
created
the
Drone
Prix,
Where
the
kids
can
watch
&
participate
in
official
drone
races.
|
The
Baltimore
Drone
Prix
is
Baltimore's
first
ever
drone
racing
event.
|
We
partnered
with
Open
Works
to
produce
the
event
here
|
and
to
really
start
the
drone
racing
league.
|
The
engagement
of
STEM
and
competition,
|
it
is
a
sport
that
is
growing
around
the
world.
|
I
think
that
our
work
is
very
important
in
our
community
because
we're
giving
|
children
not
only
a
great
example
of
what
it
is
to
be
strong
businesspeople,
|
but
we're
also
giving
them
an
opportunity
to
step
out
in
their
community
and
help
people.
